One of the biggest challenges is planning the hen’s night party. There are no rules except to make sure the hen has a night to remember, and all the guests have a great time too.
If you’re the one in charge of planning it might at first scare the pants off you! Being responsible for making choices on behalf of your friend and all her close friends is a massive exercise in coordination, resourcefulness and imagination; however, there is no reason why you can’t have lots of fun creating a memorable event for everyone.
Here are a few pointers to consider regardless of what type of event you decide to hold:
Allow plenty of time for planning so that you can pre-book as much as possible in advance. This will give you the chance to ask all those on the guest list what they think they can afford, what they are happy to participate in and what they definitely wouldn’t participate in! Then you are free to explore possibilities confident that you won’t upset anyone; this will help to ensure a party that will be fun for all and create lasting warm, fuzzy memories!
Anything that may need to be pre-booked should be booked as early as possible. Venues, caterers, entertainers even hairdressers and make-up artists get progressively more busy into the warmer months; these are the more popular months for weddings, parties, work parties and then of course Christmas parties.
Make sure you know how much it will all cost well ahead of the party date as this gives participants more time to budget for the event. Many of the participants will also have to budget for accommodation, new outfits, travel, gifts etc. In fact so will you!
Don’t be afraid to ask people for deposits if necessary. Truly, to save yourself a big headache, collect as much money from participants as you can prior to the date. The last thing you want is to have to chase people up for money on the day, or worse, have to front the money from your own pocket because someone ‘forgot’.
Remember to get written confirmation for everything you book. Most venues and event managers or entertainers communicate by email these days, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get written confirmation on any bookings. However, don’t be afraid to chase people up if necessary, you need peace of mind that nothing will go wrong at the last minute due to an oversight by a venue or other component of your fabulous event!
Keep a list of all those invited on you with their mobile numbers. No doubt you will be on the phone a lot, negotiating with friends and keeping everyone on the ball. Do share the love and allocate tasks to other trusted friends-it doesn’t all have to be done by you alone! Consider for example asking a couple of your more mature friends to take on the job of (subtly) making sure the hen drinks water and eats food during the party and perhaps keep an eye on the more excessive guests so they don’t get so out of control that they spoil things for others. You could also nominate someone to take responsibility for guests at the end of the party; by seeing girls into taxis or back to an apartment so that everyone gets home safely.
Make sure everyone has a list of venue dates and times, together with every single bit of relevant information, including phone numbers for them to ring if there is a problem well before the night of the party. You may have a small group of ten or a large group of twenty or even thirty, but to guarantee the event is a success-communication is the key. Here is a little story to illustrate this:

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done!
