The Hens Night – Gifts
A hen night, or hen party, is a ladies party given for a woman who is to be married. A hen’s night is traditionally a party given for a bride just before the wedding, and is essentially a “bachelorette party“. The Hen night, or bachelorette’s party is simply a party, given in honour of the bride-to-be, with good friends and thoughtful presents. According to one etiquette expert Peggy Post, “Whatever entertainment is planned, it should not embarrass, humiliate, or endanger the honoree or any of the guests.”
Photo Album and Photographs
Volunteer to be the official photographer for the hen’s night and create a memorable Photo Album gift. You can wrap the album for the hen to open with other gifts, including a note that the pictures to fill it with will follow shortly. The wedding is not the only day to cherish. Capture the moments she shares with her friends. Another take on this is to create place mats by scanning photos of the hen from various stages of her life and laminating them.
You could also choose to have Ky our bookmaker create a hand-made art photo album filled with special memories.
Thank You Notes
Thank-you notes are a very practical gift for a bride-to-be, especially if there are a lot of guests at the wedding. No need here for expensive stationery, plain cards with a neutral tone are appropriate. Supplement the cards with postage too. Stationery and stamps may not be the most exciting hen night gift, but the hen will appreciate them later.
Engraved Wine Glasses
Engraved glasses are a long-term gift to cherish. Optionally, have the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date engraved on them. If the couple has a favorite song, poem or scripture, you could have a selection of the verses engraved. And as the hen’s night precedes the wedding, the bride and groom can toast with these glasses at the wedding reception.
Bubble Bath and Bottle of Wine
A bubble bath and a bottle of wine make a great hen gift combination. The bride-to-be can enjoy some pampering suds and a glass of Shiraz to relax from the stress of wedding planning. The hen may may choose to save the bubble bath and wine to enjoy with her groom on the honeymoon. If the bride does not drink wine, purchase a box of gourmet chocolates or sweet delicacies.
Pampered Spa Day
Get together with the other hens party guests on the day of the hen party and invite the bride-to-be to a spa for a day of special pampering. She can get a massage, manicure, haircut, facial or a special body make-up to be refreshed for her night out with her friends. The bride-to-be does not pay for a thing, and can just relax and enjoy the special attention. Even better, splurge and get massages for the entire group, which will allow the group to more relaxed for the hen party.
Lingerie is a traditional hen’s party gift, but allow the bride-to-be to choose her own. A gift card to a good lingerie store would be nice, unless you know her taste. A gift set with bra, panties and a nightie or matching robe along with some shower gel or soap makes a sweet and thoughtful gift. If you know the hen is a little more sexy, head to Innuendo Lingerie Boutique to get her a glamorous bustier or satin negligee.
Purchase a makeup bag and add some new makeup for the bride-to-be. She can wear it to the hen party and use this on her wedding day. Think about what colors she likes and put together a nice collection for her with brands she likes, and then add in a few fun things such as shimmer powder, red lipstick or gloss and a new perfume to try. Indulge her with some things she may not buy for herself.
